World Tourism Day 2016 at Mapao Zingsho landed many families, who borrowed money to erect stalls to accommodate and satisfy the visitors in the sheer hope that the state level Festival, with the Chief Minister and the Deputy Chief Minister too arriving at the village for the first time, would attract good number of visitors to the village (based on speculations by the Organizers of the event that a crowd of at least 5,000 could be expected), into big financial troubles and debts, some of them so badly saddened with the outcome of all their hard efforts and investments that they were in complete tears at the end of the Day.
One of the major reasons behind the failure of the state level Event has stated to be lack of good publicity, and that the only advertisement for the festival was made in a local daily on the very day of the event.
The Tourism Department now owes a reply to the Mapao villagers and therefore MUST look into this sad matter, and with due introspection, provide necessary compensation to the aggrieved families.
